The labia reduction

(labiaplasty)
It is rarely the look in the mirror that makes you want to have a labia reduction. Rather, they are distorted images of the ideal state of the female genitalia, thoughtless comments from outside or functional limitations in sports or certain movements.

Labia reduction – beauty in secret
Everyone has their own ideal of beauty. This is especially true of the intimate area, because only selected people can see it and here women decide to have a labia reduction primarily based on their own personal aesthetic feelings. Pronounced labia can also lead to discomfort or discomfort for functional reasons - for example during sports such as cycling, horse riding or gymnastics.

Labia reduction primarily affects the small inner labia and when they protrude significantly beyond the outer labia. This is the case for many women and is completely normal, but it does not correspond to the ideal image. Aesthetic plastic surgeons choose from three methods for adjustment: the scalpel, the electrosurgical or the laser variant. The scalpel is used in the cheapest surgical variant of labia reduction. However, it is also the bloodiest, as the labia minora are heavily supplied with blood and become swollen again as a result of the procedure. General anesthesia is essential here, as is a strong suture. With the electrosurgical method and the laser method, significantly less blood flows because the blood vessels are immediately closed again during cutting. The most consistent result can also be expected with the laser method, as the doctor can work very precisely with it. Local anesthesia is usually sufficient here and the procedure is completed after about 30 minutes.

Complications and risks of labia reduction are mainly due to the high risk of subsequent bleeding. In addition, there are often asymmetries because an accurate cut is difficult to achieve. Impaired wound healing can extend the recovery period for several months. Serious after-effects also include disturbances in sensation or arousal, pain during sex and problems with lubrication.

Labia reduction may require follow-up treatments, for which we recommend the protection of beautyprotect.

Advice on preparing for labiaplasty
Before you have a labia reduction performed, you should be clear about your reasons. You shouldn't feel forced to do this, for example by your partner. However, the operation should not take place if your inner labia are erogenous zones. Please also note the following information:

  • Due to the high risk of bleeding during labia reduction, blood thinning agents are absolutely prohibited - both two weeks before the operation and after. These include aspirin, other flu or painkillers, sleeping pills and alcohol.
  • You should also stop smoking at least two weeks before the labiaplasty to avoid wound healing problems.
  • The labia reduction should take place as soon as possible after the last menstrual period, as it is then more comfortable for the patient and the wound can be kept drier after the procedure.
  • If the procedure takes place under general anesthesia, you should be fasting, i.e. it is best not to have eaten anything after 10 p.m. the evening before the operation.
  • On the day of the labia reduction, you should completely shave the intimate area.
  • Please apply for leave in advance for approximately two weeks after the operation. You should take it easy during this time.
What you should consider after labiaplasty
As mentioned above, painkillers are taboo after labia reduction as they increase the risk of bleeding. Instead, we recommend sitz baths in chamomile solution. It's best to do it in the morning and evening for five minutes each.

  • To avoid infections after labia reduction, avoid visiting the sauna, swimming pool and solarium for about a month.
  • Do not shower or bathe until the wound has healed. Do the sitz baths mentioned above. Make sure you maintain the highest levels of hygiene after using the toilet, including using sitz baths or mucous membrane disinfectants.
  • Take the prescribed antibiotics carefully as directed by your doctor and go to all check-up appointments.
  • Avoid exercise and sexual intercourse for at least six weeks after labia reduction.
