The tummy tuck

A flat stomach is one of those ideals of beauty that many people envy. Predisposition, excessive weight or pregnancy cause the skin to sag and exercise rarely helps. A tummy tuck can often achieve the desired result.

The tummy tuck – for smooth contours
If exercise is on your to-do list, that's always good. Unfortunately, there are parts of the body that simply don't respond to your efforts. Many women and men struggle with too much belly fat. Significant weight loss or pregnancy can also cause the skin to sag significantly and, in more serious cases, hang down. No amount of exercise can do anything. A possible alternative is a surgical tummy tuck.

For your tummy tuck, the operating doctor will select a surgical method that is suitable for your body and individual case. There are various gradations between a simple tightening of the subcutaneous fat and a major procedure in which all layers of the abdominal wall are brought back into shape. In some cases, the belly button may also need to be repositioned. In general, incisions are made and excess skin and soft tissue is removed. The skin is then sewn back together, creating the tightening effect.

Swelling and hematomas often occur after the tummy tuck. This is normal and these after-effects will subside after a short time. Loss of sensation, circulatory problems at the navel, skin irregularities and fatty tissue necrosis can also occur. Some of these complications require follow-up treatment, which you would also have to pay for yourself. Take out our beautyprotect follow-up cost insurance for your tummy tuck. Then we will cover the costs.

Advice on preparing for the tummy tuck
For a tummy tuck, it is an advantage if you are already physically fit and have lost weight three to four weeks before the operation. Eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables and also pay attention to the following tips:

  • To ensure good wound healing after the tummy tuck, you should avoid nicotine and alcohol.
  • Anticoagulant or anticoagulant medications are also taboo. If these are medically necessary for you, discuss this with your doctor.
  • Plan to recover for at least two weeks after the tummy tuck and, if necessary, take a vacation.
  • To ensure that you are fasting for the procedure, it is best not to eat anything after 10 p.m. the evening before the operation.
What you should consider after the tummy tuck
To ensure a good and quick healing phase, you should take it easy in the first six weeks after the tummy tuck. After the procedure, you will be in the clinic for between two and four days. We have the following tips for you afterwards:

  • Relieve your abdominal wall as much as possible at all times. That means avoiding movements that put a lot of strain on your abdominal muscles.
  • Do not carry any loads that weigh more than five kilograms and start exercising after two weeks at the earliest and strength training after three weeks.
  • Light exercise such as walking supports your healing phase after the tummy tuck and reduces the risk of thrombosis.
  • Be sure to sleep on your back and, if possible, with your upper body slightly elevated.
  • In the first few days after the tummy tuck, you will wear a soft bandage, which will then be replaced by special compression clothing, usually an abdominal girdle. You should wear the bodice day and night for about six weeks.
  • Wait until your scars are no longer red before sunbathing or tanning. This usually happens after about two to three months. Even after this, you should only go out in the sun with a high sun protection factor so that your scars do not turn dark.
